Hawaii Holiday Packages

Perhaps it's the fact that in the tropical Islands of Hawaii it doesn't usually snow or get very cold, except on the upper slopes of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea on the Big Island. So winter holidays are sometimes celebrated by going out to dinner, having friends and family over for dinner or even gathering the entire family at a park, such as Kapiolani Park, playing games, surfing, grilling some Kalbi Ribs for appetizers or deep frying a turkey in celebration of Thanksgiving.

But in December, even though the temperature will probably be in the 80's, out come the holiday lights at all the shopping centers, a giant Christmas Tree is put up in front of Honolulu Hale (City Hall), the streets of downtown Honolulu become festive with lights twined through the many trees and the displays of the Hawaiian Snow Family and Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting once again with their bare feet in the pool in front of Honolulu Hale, dressed in mu'umu'u and aloha shirt.

Inside there will be trees and wreaths decorated by different city departments and free entertainment almost nightly. In Waikiki, decorations will be strung and some of the hotels, such as the Moana Surfrider, a Westin Resort will feature in their lobby an unbelievable Gingerbread Village, complete with train, ice skaters and even a carousel.

Then suddenly it's New Year's Eve. Spirits are high, thousands of people gather on Waikiki Beach to bring in the New Year with fireworks and fire crackers and with a feeling in the air of anticipation. Strangers smile and toast each other as the clock ticks down and you'll hear softly throughout the crowd the sounds of Auld Lang Syne. Look out to the ocean and up to the stars, hug whoever you're with and you'll realize you've just been a part one of those magical memories you'll never forget
